Enroute

Control and navigation of aircraft over land traditionally have relied on ground-based navigation aids (Navaids). Aircraft must normally fly from Navaid to Navaid to reach their destination. Flight paths are rarely direct, penalizing pilot and passengers with excessive fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and time spent airborne.

With the advent of GPS, exact positional information is available to pilots. This enables direct routes, reduced flight times and reduced fuel consumption.
